One small glimmer
was all I needed. I was hooked
as fast as a fish
clasps a worm. The whirl-
wind of colors and sounds
escaped my TV, captivated
my being. The movies circulated
on their unending reel. True love
blossoms in many ways.
Mine glowed from the screen and bloomed
into the rarest of roses. School plays
became my home,
chorus lines my stepping stone.
My eyes bled theater and my hands
molded acting. One drop
of limelight
touched my bloodstream,
became a drug that plunged
me into bliss
no matter the size of injection.
Downstage left, feet spread, shoulders
back, hair hauled out of eyes is where I’ll
always be. Blinded
by the starry night.
